Winter Season Foods and Tips - Being Health Conscious

Cold weather often interferes with your exercise routine and sends your mood into a tailspin. It is tempting to eat too much because you are bored, stressed, or just plain bored. Instead of giving in to these impulses, look for food that's rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Many fruits and vegetables are great sources of antioxidants, which can improve your health and fight against the winter blues. Consume plenty of citrus fruits, which boost your immune system and are also good sources of vitamin C and potassium.

Vegetables. Soup is one of the best winter foods, especially if you make it yourself. When making soup, make sure to cut back on the cream and salt, and include a lot of vegetables. Add a handful of lentils or beans for added protein and fiber. These ingredients will help slow down the digestion process and keep your blood sugar level in check. Vegetables are great for the winter, and can even be served with 100% whole-grain crackers.

Oranges. Oranges are an important part of the winter season. They are "golden" gifts during winter. When you buy them in winter, you can find specialty oranges such as blood and navel. Don't be fooled by the color of an orange; it is the size that matters. Moreover, oranges will keep for weeks, so you don't have to worry about them spoiling. So, enjoy the fruits and vegetables in the coldest season.
